Oral health care is important to everyone, yet, according to surveys, men are more likely to ignore their oral heath than women. In honor of Father’s Day, Green Dental of Alexandria would like to encourage all men to make their oral health a priority. Good oral health has been linked with longevity – what better encouragement could there be? However, according to dentists across the United States, men are less likely to visit the dentist for preventive dental care and often wait until there is an oral issue before making a dental appointment. At Green Dental of Alexandria, we want our patients to find value in visiting the dentist’s office and to feel comfortable doing so. We want to be the dental practice that you trust for the dental healthcare needs of your entire family – including the men in your life.
Periodontal disease is one of the most common dental issues that men face as a direct result of not visiting the dentist regularly. Periodontal disease is caused by plaque building up on the gum line and attacking the teeth and gums. Plaque is filled with acid producing bacteria that attacks the enamel of the teeth and infects the gums. Irreversible damage can occur from periodontal disease, causing men to lose their teeth – which brings about a whole host of other dental issues. It has been proven that a link exists between gum disease and cardiovascular disease, and because men experience cardiovascular disease at a higher percentage than women, this should be a huge wake up call to men who put off going to the dentist twice a year. Other risk factors for dental health issues include tobacco use, medications taken regularly, and participation in sports.
Green Dental of Alexandria is a gentle dental practice that strives to provide the highest quality dental healthcare possible in an atmosphere that is relaxing and comfortable for our patients. We know that many men tend to put off all types of preventive health measures, but we want to encourage them not to. So many health issues can be related back to the mouth – which is why promoting optimal oral health care is an essential part of living well.
