There are times throughout life where you will be unsure of whether or not you should call the doctor or dentist. Determining what can wait and what needs attention can be difficult at times, and Green Dental of Alexandria wants to make sure that all of our patients receive the necessary dental care they need whenever they have a concern.
The answer to the question, “What is a necessary dental concern?” is as simple as this: if anything concerns you regarding your gums, teeth, or mouth, then it is a necessary dental concern that should be brought to your dentist’s attention.
There are certain indicators that should give everyone pause when it comes to their dental health:
- Any pain associated with one or more teeth. Pain in a tooth generally indicates that a tooth is infected, decayed, or has been damaged. This pain will only get worse, and if there is infection or decay present it will easily spread to neighboring teeth.
- Gums that bleed. Gums that bleed while brushing the teeth are a very good indicator that gum disease is present. Gingivitis is the first stage of gum disease, and it is reversible with the help of your dentist. However, gingivitis that is not treated in its earliest stages will develop into periodontal disease – with no treatment possible for reversal.
- Any tooth that is suddenly sensitive. Tooth sensitivity can indicate a number of issues going on inside the mouth. The most common are gum recession and damage to a tooth. Any notices of sudden sensitivity to hot or cold foods or beverages should not be ignored.
- A permanent tooth that has become loose. Permanent teeth were created to stay securely in the mouth for a person’s lifetime. Any movement of a permanent tooth is a sign that something serious is going on.
While dental emergencies are relatively easy to identify, it is the questionable issues that tend to get dental patients into the most trouble. If you have any of the above signs, or anything else, concerning you about your teeth, please do not hesitate to call Green Dental of Alexandria. We are here to help you achieve and maintain a healthy, beautiful smile for life.
