Six Ways to Maintain Your Teeth Whitening Results

Woman Smiling After Teeth Whitening from Green Dental of Alexandria VA

Professional teeth whitening continues to top the list as the most sought after cosmetic dental procedure available. Modern technology and top grade materials make it possible for patients to attain a whiter and more confident smile with minimal sacrifice to their time, comfort and budget. The results of professional teeth whitening can be profound. In fact, whiter teeth can take years off of your appearance and even help you be more competitive in the workplace.

As with any cosmetic purchase, it is helpful to know how you can maximize your investment best. Teeth whitening is a temporary solution, and many daily habits and the natural aging process can sabotage a white smile. However, there are some things you can do after your whitening procedure to ensure you retain your brilliant smile shade for as long as possible.

Avoid Staining Foods

There are certain foods and sauces that stain the teeth. These include dark berries, tomato sauce, soy sauce and others. Consider consuming these staining foods in moderation or not at all.

Use a Straw for Dark-Colored Beverages

A straw can be your best friend after teeth whitening. A straw can allow you to drink your morning coffee and other dark-colored beverages without the risk of it ruining your white smile. If you don’t use a straw, at least be mindful of how you drink. Try not to swish dark liquids around in your mouth before swallowing.

Consider Snacks that Naturally Whiten

While there are foods that can discolor your teeth, there are also those that can naturally whiten your teeth. Strawberries, apples and celery all work to scrub off stubborn stains as you chew.

Stop Smoking

Smoking cigarettes is a surefire way to waste your teeth whitening investment. Go ahead and kick your nicotine habit first, and then reward yourself with a teeth whitening procedure afterwards.

Drink Water and Chew Sugarless Gum

Your saliva serves as a natural cleanser for your teeth. You can not only chew sugarless gum to keep your salvia production high, but you can also drink water throughout the day to rinse off food debris and other staining culprits.

I just had my first appointment at Green Dental and I couldn't be happier with their service. I tend to be nervous when going to the dentist, but all of the staff were very welcoming and nice. The exam chair massages your back as you're getting your cleaning and there's a television on the ceiling to distract you from dental work. The cleaning and evaluation was very gentle. Thanks, Green Dental!

Top shelf dental care. Convenient location via METRO/King Street Station. Patient's dental chair features back massage capability along with TV viewing (CNN). Dr. Hye Park is very smooth. Dental experience beyond compare. I actually enjoy going to the dentist now.

Once again, even the cleaning was uneventful. Love being able to look outside while I'm in the chair. Dr. Park has the most gentle & tiny hands ! Love this place and the staff.
